His off-spin will be missed in the field but UAE have enough bowlers still. And Malaysia has enough batsmen. Suhan Kumar, their captain, to the fore. He walks out to resume his innings after lunch....

UAE's 152 was indebted to Salman Farooq (40 off 63) who battled a pulled hamstring to take his side from 70 for 7 to 152 all out after 41 overs.

The situation at the start of the day: UAE top on run-rate above Afghanistan, both with two wins. Malaysia third, with one win. After UAE's first innings against Malaysia where they made 152, Afghanistan are now top of Group B and cannot be touched. It's now a straight fight between UAE and Malaysia with the wrinkle that Malaysia not only have to win but have to knock off 153 inside 28.2 to finish with 2 wins (like UAE) but ahead of UAE on run-rate.

So, welcome back to what promises to be a gripping hour and a half of play.

Join us again at 1.40 PM Kuwait time (1040 hrs GMT) for the conclusion of this match.

Lots of action around us as everybody's eyes, even the Nepal and Kuwait players on their lunch break have been watching this game.

UAE have had two big breakthroughs but they are only defending 152. Malaysia have not only to get 153 but get them in another 140 balls (23.2 overs) after lunch if they are to pip UAE to that second semi-final place behind Afghanistan.

It's going to be incredibly intense

And the game is on a knife-edge

Malaysia's innings is about to start

So the win is 153 in 50 overs at 3.06, the win and the semi-final place is 153 in 28.2 overs at 5.40

All confirmed by the Match Referee Arjuna Amaratunga, the Technical Director RIaz Chaudhry in the Secretariat and Malaysia's Manager Charlie Chelliah.

From 70 for 7, UAE recovered to 116 for 8 and then Salman Farooq found another partner in Shoaib Sarwar. 152 is undoubtedly below par but in a pressurer situation, in a match which Malaysia must win, and score the runs in 28.2 overs if they are to pip UAE to the last semi-final spot. Afghanistan are currently on top of Group B following UAE's batting in this match.

There's been some uneven bounce so far which UAE's bowlers will be looking to exploit

The roller's going on for Malaysia, they're going to try and flatten the gremlins in the wicket

UAE: 152 all out off 42 overs

250-270 is what he'll be looking for and given the fact that the wicket at Unity gets easier in the afternoon and Malaysia's top-order looks very good, that's probably what UAE will need.

Must have thought about the other option, but chose to be be positive and keep the initiative and set a stiff target.

UAE's Khurram Khan has called correctly and UAE will bat first

KOC Unity: The captains walk out for the toss

KOC Unity: Grass cuttings still being rolled into the bowler's landing area at the North End of the ground

KOC Unity The Match Referee and Umpires walk out to make an inspection....

There have been all kinds of calculations by the Malaysian team overnight as they sought to know the exact scenario for a run-chase or a defense of a total they put up. As you can see from the points table, it's very close between Malaysia and Afghanistan. We'll keep you updated as things progress of course, but in the words of Roy Dias who's coaching Nepal next door, "First get the win, then think of the run-rate." Without a win for Malaysia, run-rate calculations are academic.

Malaysia have to win in order to stand a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals. A win for UAE will confirm them at the top of Group B.

Not a cloud in the sky at the moment and the temperature's starting to rise. 24 degrees Centigrade, the faint smell of damp grass drying in the air. There's a constant westerly breeze too which is helping things along.

Next door, literally, at the Hubara ground, Kuwait v Nepal at KOC Hubara, the match will start on time. Nepal won the toss and have elected to field first.

Good morning from sunny Kuwait, where the news is, that after early morning rain and heavy rain yesterday afternoon, the KOC Unity ground is still in the hands of the groundsmen as they dry some damp patches at the North End.

The match start has been delayed, possibly to 9.30 AM according to estimates from the boundary. The Match Referee Arjuna Amaratunga still has to confirm an exact time and whether the scheduled 50 overs will be reduced.
