Oman vs Malaysia

In their first game of the tournament, Oman went on to defeat Malaysia by a mere eight runs.
Oman chose to bat but it seemed Malaysia's pace attack at the start of the game was too much for the Oman batsmen to handle. A wicket in the second delivery of the game and another in the 3 rd over had Oman at a score of just 16-2 after 4 overs. It may just have been the nerves as Oman quickly shook them off after hitting a few boundaries.

Just as a partnership was brewing between Awal Khan (6) and Zeeshan Siddiqui (34), confusion between the players led to Siddiqui scrambling back into his crease, but to no avail. Oman's lack of clear calling between their batsmen led to three run outs in a space of just over 2 overs. Soon Oman were ruing their situation as the scoreboard read 73-7 after 14 overs.

Syed Amir Ali (24) tried picking up whatever pieces was left of his teams batting and managed to get the teams score to 110. He was dismissed by an acrobatic catch courtesy of Malaysian wicket-keeper, Suresh Sakadevan, as Oman finished at 113 after 19.5 overs.

Malaysia went in to bat with one main aim, not to lose an early wicket. Their plan held out till the 6th over as the opening pair of Arul Suppiah (17) and Rohan Selvaratnam (4) put up 23 runs before Suppiah swung wildly at a delivery that was headed straight for the stumps. Selvaratnam played a total of 20 balls and scored only 4 runs, before he too was bowled.

Thushara Kodikara (24) is known for his explosive batting. One got the feeling that he was just warming up when he smashed a six over long off but one delivery later and he was bowled by Omani spinner, Tariq Hussain (2-18). A plan to slowly but surely reach their target was failing when Suresh Navaratnam (1) was stumped, credit to a special piece of awareness by wicket-keeper, Sultan Ahmed. With the score at 58-5, Malaysia needed someone to hit out or atleast get a few boundaries.

The pressure was now on Malaysia as they required 36 runs from the last three overs in order to win. Suhan Kumar (28*) replied with a huge six and a couple of fours to ease the pressure but only momentarily as M. Krishnamurthi and Rohan Suppiah (1) fell within the space of an over.

With 19 runs to win off the last over, it was asking too much off the batsman as Malaysia crashed to their second defeat in two days losing by 8 runs eventually. The highest scorer in either innings was named man of the match and that was Zeeshan Siddiqui of Oman.
